Worried about getting shot at on your commute? Then this amoured Superb Estate from Skoda might just put your mind at rest
Skoda, together with a specialist UK converter, has been working on a 3-year project to deliver an armoured Skoda Superb Estate. Priced at £118,688 the price tag is perhaps a little more than you’d be prepared to pay for your new car. The same money could get you a Lamborghini Gallardo Balboni, a Ferrari F430 Scuderia or even a Porsche 911 GT3 RS. But if your personal security is more important to you than speed, then perhaps the bulletproof Superb is for you.
This very special edition of the Skoda Superb Estate comes with a 2.0 Litre diesel engine but the brakes and suspension have been upgraded. Not surprising considering the additional weight due to the specially reinforced passenger cell and bullet-resistant glass alongside high strength steel and composite materials used in the build.
The virtually indestructible Skoda Superb meets PAS 300 standards for ballistic and blast protection (the test methods for assessing civilian armoured vehicles). The wheels have been specially modified to ensure the car is driveable even when the tyres have deflated so you can still make a getaway, albeit a slightly slower one than you may like as the top-speed of 120mph is approximately 20mph less than on the standard model.
It has some other neat features that you might expect on an armoured vehicle such as sirens – of course! – and emergency lighting. It comes with Skoda’s standard 3 year warranty but we bet that doesn’t cover scratches and dints from gunfire.
