The low-down and the highlights from Company Car in Action 2018
Company Car in Action is a great event. Every year car manufacturers gather at Millbrook Proving Ground to promote their wares, predominantly to fleet buyers. The event gives visitors the opportunity to not only see the latest company car models but also to take them for a test drive out on test tracks not normally open to the public.
At Total Vehicle Leasing, we offer both Business and Personal car and van leasing so we took the opportunity to head along to Millbrook and find out what’s new.
Who was there?
Twenty-six manufacturers had turned out including Audi, BMW, Ford, Honda, Jaguar, Kia, Jaguar Land Rover, Lexus, Mercedes, Mini, Nissan, Peugeot, Citroen, DS Automobiles, Porsche, Renault, Seat, Suzuki, Toyota, Vauxhall and Volvo as well as Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Fiat Professional and Jeep represented by FCA Fleet & Business.
To get the most out of the day, we sent a team of three representing our marketing, sales and pricing departments. The idea was for them to attend the day and feed back to their respective teams so that as a business we had a holistic view of the event and what was happening in this sector.
It was an early start for the team which saw them meeting at a service station somewhere on the M6 at 5.30am. This proved a good idea as they arrived at Millbrook half an hour before they threw open the doors. So they headed off for a bacon buttie. Fed and watered they then headed over to Millbrook. The event itself was perfectly executed.
Marshalls were on every corner, guiding the way and parking was like a military operation. They was plenty of space and as soon as people were parked, a team of courtesy vehicles were on hand to whisk visitors the mile or so to the event.
After a short safety briefing, the team were ushered through to the showground where the manufacturers were arranged in a large circle. Each looking like a mini-dealership – complete with forecourt and sales office. Over 300 models were on show and it was an impressive site to behold.
Manufacturers’ teams were ready and waiting to take bookings for test drive and extol the virtues of the latest models and deliver brand messages.
Some manufacturers had vehicles which were available to be taken for a test drive immediately whilst others had to be pre-booked. Despite the early start, by the time our team had reached some of the stands, some of the vehicles they wanted to try out had been fully booked out for the day.
Hotlaps gave visitors the chance to be driven round the high speed circuit at top speeds by professional racing drivers. Our team landed at the Toyota/Lexus stand and were immediately given the chance to try out the sporty Lexus RC-F and the hot hatchback that is the Toyota Yaris GRMN. As you can see from the video, our passenger remained pretty damn calm despite being driven at speeds of up to 178mph, which is impressive as, without naming names, the next person from our team would only allow the driver to go up to 100mph! Chicken ;)
