As has become a tradition with the introduction of new cars from KIA UK, the new e-Niro all-electric SUV will initially launch in ‘First Edition’ specification when sales start in April, 2019.
The UK-spec e-Niro will have a high-capacity 64 kWh battery, giving it an electric range of 282 miles. The electric motor produces 201hp for a 0-62mph time of 7.5 seconds – which is rather quick for a middle-weight SUV, although its top speed is limited to 104mph.
Standard kit on the e-Niro ‘First Edition’ includes climate control, autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, touchscreen navigation with an 8.0-inch screen and a 320-Watt, eight-speaker JBL sound system. Leather furniture is standard and the front seats are heated.
Oddly, the e-Niro has regular halogen headlights, rather than brighter energy-saving LED units, although it does have LED rear lamps. The only option on the KIA e-Niro ‘First Edition’ model will be its external colour choice of five premium paint colours, including Pluto Brown unique to the e-Niro.
The e-Niro also still gets the seven-year, 100,000-mile warranty of all KIA UK models, which extends to the battery and electric motor. It’s fully transferable to future owners, too.
The KIA e-Niro joins the existing Niro hybrid and Niro Plug-in Hybrid and is visibly different from those with a redesigned, aero-tuned front end with integrated charging port, and ‘arrowhead’ LED running lights with eco-blue trim.
At the rear, a new bumper has more eco-blue accents and the e-Niro has bespoke 17-inch alloys with a two-tone, diamond-cut finish.
