KIA UK has revealed more images of its new KIA ProCeed – a five-door coupé-like version of the all-new KIA Ceed. It is set to go on UK sale in early 2019 and will sit above the KIA Ceed Estate in the Ceed range and attempt to steer buyers away from models like the Audi A3 and Mercedes A-Class. The car will be built in Slovakia and has been designed, developed and engineered in Europe.
- Shooting brake body style mimics the 2017 KIA ProCeed Concept.
- Designed, developed, engineered and built in Europe, to be manufactured in Slovakia.
- Two trim grades offered: GT-Line and GT.
- Choice of petrol or diesel for GT-Line, but high performance 1.6 turbo petrol for GT
A replacement for the previous three-door KIA ProCeed hatchback, the new ProCeed boasts five doors and is longer than the new KIA Ceed Estate, but with a swooping roofline and a ride height that is 5mm lower. The overall result is a sportier but still practical take on the range-topping Ceed model. KIA describes the new ProCeed’s body style as a 'shooting brake’.
Ride and Handling
The ProCeed’s ride and handling characteristics have been developed ‘exclusively for European roads and European drivers’, says KIA. With rivals like the new Ford Focus setting benchmarks for fun-to-drive family cars, KIA has stepped up its game significantly for its new Ceed models.
The KIA ProCeed will be offered in just two top-end trim levels: GT-Line and GT and we expect there to be three petrol engines and one diesel to choose from, namely a 1.0-litre 118hp three-cylinder petrol, a four-cylinder 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre boasting 138hp and 201hp respectively. The sole diesel option is KIA’s 1.6-litre engine with 134hp. Full performance and economy figures of the engines to be deployed in the ProCeed have yet to be released, but each engine is likely to offer a liveable and usable balance of each.
Proceed Engine Choices
On the transmissions front, all engine options are likely to come with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, but with the exception of the smallest petrol engine, the option of KIA’s excellent seven-speed dual-clutch automatic should also be offered.
Following its full public outing at the Paris Motor Show in October, the new KIA ProCeed is expected to arrive in UK dealer showrooms during January 2019.
